Artist Statement

Through themes that evoke discomfort, Maggie Letvin imposes an intense experience on the viewer. This type of direct approach creates an immediate impact and responses. Continuously exploring media and materials to create a type of multisensory approach in which print and performance play a leading role; they confront the viewer in an unavoidable way. Reflecting on aspects of their own discomfort as both a person and an artist, they are interested in transferring a type of uncomfortable feeling to the observer to challenge them to think and question their roles in societal systems and structures. Maggie is interested in continuing to explore the experimental aspect of being on the edge of uncomfortability, often through the lens of gender identity.
